Duo Mobile App Compatibility


This article aims to answer frequently asked questions about the compatibility of the Duo Mobile app with different mobile devices, and what to do if you don't have a supported device.

1. Duo Mobile 支援哪些 Android/iOS 版本?

我們建議用戶在可行的情況下將其 Android / iOS 升級到最新的支援版本。

 

對於已經安裝在舊版 Android / iOS 裝置上的 Duo Mobile 應用程式,應用程式產生的一次性密碼仍可繼續使用。但是,我們無法為這些裝置提供技術支援服務,而且如果應用程式被移除,用戶可能無法再從 Google Play Store / App Store 重新下載。

 

2. Duo Mobile 是否支援 Chrome OS 、華為 Android 或採用 鴻蒙作業系統 的華為裝置?

Duo Mobile 不支援 Chrome OS 及華為裝置。(請情【只有英語】)

 

3. Duo Mobile 是否支援非標準的 Android 裝置或自訂的 Android 作業系統發行版本?

雖然 Duo 不提供對自訂 Android 發行版或使用者介面(如 OxygenOS、LineageOS、ColorOS 等)的官方支援,但仍然有可能使用 Duo Mobile。使用自訂 Android 作業系統發行版最常見的裝置是 OnePlus 和小米,不過還有許多其他裝置。(請情【只有英語】)

 

4. 我沒有支援 Duo Mobile 的裝置。 我該怎麼辦?

1. Which versions of Android / iOS does Duo Mobile support? 

We recommend users upgrade their Android / iOS to the latest supported version where practicable.  

 

For Duo Mobile app that already installed in older versions of Android / iOS devices, app-generated passcode authentications will continue to function.  However, troubleshooting support to these devices are no longer available, and if the app is removed, users may be unable to download it again from Google Play Store / App Store.

 

2. Does Duo Mobile support Chrome OS, Huawei Android devices or Huawei devices running HarmonyOS?

No, Duo Mobile does not support Chrome OS and Huawei devices. (source)

 

3. Does Duo Mobile support non-standard Android devices or custom Android OS distributions?

Duo does do not provide official support for custom Android distributions or "skins" like OxygenOS, LineageOS, ColorOS, etc. but Duo Mobile activation may be possible. The most frequently used devices that use custom Android distributions are OnePlus and Xiaomi, though there are many more. (source)

 

4. I don't have a supported device for Duo enrollment.  What should I do?

If you don't have a supported device to enrol in Duo 2FA, please consider the following options.

  1. Download the APK version of Duo Mobile.  See this article for details.  Please note that we can only provide best effort support for the use of APKs.  In addition, Duo Push notifications may not work using APKs - you need to "fetch" them by leaving and returning to the app.

  2. Purchase a hardware token from us.  The price is HK$100 and must be collected from campus.  To apply, submit a request including
    • Your student/staff ID
    • Your name
    • Your personal email address (if you do not have access to your CUHK email)
    • Your contact phone number.

      We will contact you when the token is ready.

  3. Obtain a supported device.  It is essential to have a supported device for Duo 2FA.  We strongly recommend that you consider obtaining a compatible device in advance. This will assist you in completing important tasks such as course selection in a timely manner. We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to ensuring a smooth process.
